Snæfellsstofa is a visitor centre for the east territory of Vatnajökull National park. The visitor centre opened in june 2010 and is the first BREEAM certified building in Iceland. The centre also has an interesting exhibition about the circle and forming of the nature and in the visitor centre you can get information about the area, the wildlife and the nature.

Opening hours:

May: weekdays 10:00 – 16:00, weekends 12:00-17:00
June 1 – August 31: Every day from 10:00 – 17:00
September: weekdays 10:00 – 16:00, weekends 12:00-17:00

October: Tuesdaysand Wednesdays 10:00-15:00

Winter: Snæfellsstofa can be open by apointment. Please contact us in advance.

Rangers from Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður national park offer a guided hike every weekday (mon-fri) starting at 10 AM from June 28th until August 6th. Starting at the parking lot by Hengifoss, rangers provide information about the geology and history of the area. The hike stops at Litlanesfoss but from there, the trail continues to Hengifoss.
